QuiltEsk 2012 Challenge PDF Print E-mail

Well here it is,  the one you’ve been waiting for…

the 2012 QuiltEsk Challenge!!

We’ve got something different planned for you again this year and it’s got nothing to do with either the Olympics or the Jubilee!  This year we have planned a Project Linus challenge. For those of you unfamiliar with the Project have a look at this link – http://www.projectlinusuk.org.uk/ for more information.

Quilts submitted to the challenge will ultimately be donated to the Project (unless you specifically request otherwise) and monies raised through coin votes, as we did last year, will go to our chosen charity Breast Cancer Care.

What we’d like you to do is to choose a child to make a quilt for – a baby, a child or a teenager and this choice is likely to influence your choice of colours and fabrics, for which there are no restrictions. Make a quilt from a combination of only 2 pieced blocks, minimum size 36” x 36”.  The maximum size will, again, depend on the age of the child you’ve chosen.  No embellishments, buttons or fusible appliqué are allowed (Project Linus requirements) but stitched appliqué is fine.  You might be interested to know that Project Linus often has particular difficulty in finding quilts to give to teenagers and boys but it really is up to you who you make for – it will definitely be gratefully received.

You need to hand your finished quilt to us at a workshop or to Judith by 1st June with your name, address and phone number attached to the back of the quilt. We will assume you are willing to donate your quilt to the Project unless you indicate on your label you want it to be returned to you (which is fine).

The prizes for the first, second and third ‘highest earning’ quilts will be £25, £15 and £10 vouchers for Judith’s Fabrics. We will show the quilts at our June and July Whitby workshops, our Coulby Newham workshops and at East Whitby School to maximise voting opportunities.

Please help us to make this the biggest challenge yet – so many children will benefit from this- go on, have a go.

Thank you, good luck and happy quilting!
